Medical moments with your horse

Not every horse day is a perfect horse day, today Mara and I were inside once again due to high winds and cool gray weather. We enjoyed grooming, ground work and lunging in the arena. While my horse pal Bridget was treating her young mare for scratches, a form of dermatitis that afflicts the pasterns and fetlocks of horses usually caused by mud or consistent wet conditions. This demonstrates how important grooming and trying to keep your horse mud free is, however that’s not always easy or possible. This horse is a pasture horse who is now in on stall rest to treat and heal from scratches, we hope to see her back out very soon!

Monday with Mara B

After our weekend apart I was delighted to be back with Mara today! She met me at the gate, enjoyed a nibble of grass, some grain and a flake of hay while I groomed her. Because it was very windy outside we rode in the arena and did quite a bit of trotting as that is Mara’s favorite gait. My Mara moments this Monday where mellow and magical, great to be back at the stable with her.

Listen to a good horse book!

Trey and Janay listened to a great horse story about Nellie the horse and then they received a Nellie the horse stuffed animal at the National Book Festival today in Washington DC! Both Trey and Janay enjoyed hearing some Mara B stories too! A wonderful day for all of us. So listen up to a great horse story when you get the chance.
