So Blue & So Green

Mara B and I enjoyed a ride with Tera and Rosie this morning. It was warm and sunny and I noticed how very blue the sky was and how much green is still around. There are certainly signs of fall, however today’s route kept us surrounded by lush growing green alfalfa and grasses.

The brown we’re observing are burrs, and no one wants to touch those.

Subtle September changes are noticeable.

Lost & Found

Mara and her pals where staying dry in their shelter when I arrived today, and Mara wasn’t even wet after a night of very heavy rain.

Mara and I then had perfect timing to ride out with Kim/Rio and Anne/Kol this morning between rain, mist and drizzle. However Kim lost both her phone case and her car key on the way to Sam’s.

Searching along the side of the road on our return to the Barn, we had no luck spotting the lost phone case. I even called it but we never heard the ringing. So we retraced our steps and headed back towards Sam’s for a second time.

Kim spotted it! I retrieved it, however there was no car key in the bag.

Low and behold I saw the key on the opposite side of the road quite a distance from the found phone case! I dismounted and picked it up! Yeah.

Three women out with their horses and a surprise twist that made for an ‘out of the ordinary’ ride this Monday morning. We were all delighted with the conclusion.

Gardens & Lawns

Mara B and I were ready for an outing this morning and we liked strolling the quiet neighborhood street. The beautiful lawns and gardens were lovely and Toni even invited us up to see her gardens and cute shed where she grows herbs.

We also noticed the snowy white fluff from cottonwood trees fly through the air and blanket the ground today.

This lawn is one of my favorites and motivated me to get home and on to my own yard work!

Mara B was very good and seemed to also be happy to be out and about on such a nice morning.

Icy Footing

Mara B and I did ride out this morning, however with very different conditions than yesterday. After the thaw and then today’s drop in temps we had really icy footing to manage. I even hand walked her across the solid ice on the driveway to get into the hayfield. We then circled the hayfield in the opposite direction of yesterday and called it a day. Good exercise for Ms Mara!

Signs of Deer

Mara and I had a morning walk along the side of the hayfield today and saw many signs of the neighborhood deer. Deer tracks, scat and oval-shaped impressions in the snow where deer had been resting were along our path. Plus the morning fog had left lovely frost on the grasses and tree branches, it was quite magical.

Mara the Wrangler

Fun full morning for us today. Starting in the round pen, Mara had real energy to expend. Then Hannah needed an assist with catching a horse and jumped on Mara to work with her as a wrangler. It was fun to watch and Mara was great at the job, however M&H did not prevail (this time). We concluded our morning together with a relaxing ride around some of the dairy loop. A good horse day.

Plowed Fields and Heat

Mara and walked to Sam’s this afternoon and the corn fields are now plowed fields. We enjoyed sunshine and clear skies. It seemed warmer outside than in the barn, but the heat is now on! Preparing to tack up I start in the bathroom these days to use the heat in there to warm up Mara’s bit. Just one of those seasonal changes brought on by the cold temps.
